On-The-Go Wellbeing Support For Dads
In support of the NHS long term plan, the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys (TEWV) NHS Foundation Trust has purchased rights to DadPad, an easy to use, free app which provides dads with advice on caring for a new baby as well as information on topics including mental health.
The quick and easy to use resource gives fathers practical tips on things like feeding, sleeping and bonding with your baby as well as sharing information to help dads adjust to their new roles and cope with the physical and emotional strains having a baby can place on individuals and relationships. It also includes information on mental health issues affecting both men and women during pregnancy and after birth.
Dr Ahmad Khouja, medical director at TEWV said “We are delighted to be able to offer people living in the Trust area free access to this fantastic app which aims to support new fathers and improve outcomes for children and their families.
“From changing relationship dynamics to money worries and the stress of additional responsibilities, new and expectant dads have a lot to take on board which can leave them feeling overwhelmed, stressed and low in mood. Having ready access to accurate, helpful advice can make a real difference to how they experience parenthood and their overall wellbeing."
Dr Khouja added: “Apps such as this also help to raise awareness around perinatal mental illness. With one in five mothers experiencing mental health difficulties in pregnancy or following birth, educating fathers on trigger points and signs that someone is struggling can help to make sure women receive appropriate support, when they most need it.”
Julian Bose, creator of DadPad and founding director of Inspire Cornwall, a community interest company working with vulnerable adults, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the team at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust and to make this helpful resource available for men living in the Trust area. With technology playing such a big part in everyone’s lives today, DadPad has opened up a world of possibilities in delivering important information quickly and easily to dads.”
